I was always interested in ink on paper, originally from a literary standpoint, focusing on zines and small press books. One of my first jobs was at a commercial printing house, during which time I took a screen printing class at the local community college, although even then I knew that what I really wanted to learn was etching and drypoint (which were only offered during the day). I had seen Manet’s 1865 portrait of Baudelaire in an old auction catalog purchased in a used book store on a trip to Boston and been fascinated by the print’s striking chiaroscuro.
