Congratulations Student Printmaker Winners

Hands holding a screen print of an oil refinery

On May 6, 26 Student Printmaker applicants were invited to submit their prints for jurying in the hopes of winning a portion of $4,000 the LAPS Foundation was offering outstanding College/University printmakers for the year 2023.  Of those 26, nine were chosen for Grant monies ranging from $750 to $150.  The jurors had difficult decisions to make, as much of the art work was of high quality. The jurors, LAPS Foundation President Diane McLeod, Foundation Treasurer Gail Jacobs, retired Foundation Treasurer Masha Schweitzer and Los Angeles Printmaking Society President Karen Fiorito spent more than three hours making their decisions, regretting only that there were no more funds to go around to other deserving Printmakers.

A week later, on May 13, an Awards Ceremony was held at the The Artists’ Gallery (TAG) in Los Angeles.  Karen, who is a member and on the Board of this beautiful collective art space, gave an informational presentation about the member owned and run gallery.  She told visitors about the gallery spaces, which are numerous and continue upstairs and the exhibition scheduling. Students in particular got to see an excellent option for finding a place one can participate in and have opportunities to not only show their art but to interact collectively in support of the gallery’s existence.

Congratulations to all of the outstanding student printmaker winners. And many thanks to those who came out to see their family, friends or loved ones win a significant award that will not only help them in their pursuits of printmaking, but will be an important addition to their resumes.  All the winners are invited to become student members of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.
