I am a past President of LAPS and current President of the grant giving LAPS Foundation. I completed my undergraduate cum laude in Art and Art Education at the University of Minnesota, my home town, and my Master of Arts degree in Printmaking at New York University. I studied independently at workshops in Rochester, NY, Center of the Eye, Aspen, CO, Frogman's Printmaking workshops, Vermillion, SD, and CSULB. After completing a lot of art in all areas of Printmaking, I find that Monotypes give me the best opportunity for exploration, spontaneity and a painterly approach.
Born in Detroit MI, I call Minnesota my real home. I found my love of Printmaking at the University of Minnesota and taught Middle School Art upon graduation. Unsatisfied, I applied for and received a scholarship to attend New York University where Hale Woodruff, the great Lithography artist, and I became friends. I returned home to MN when my mother passed away, resumed teaching art and became a founding member of the Women's Art Registry of Minnesota, a feminist art gallery in downtown Minneapolis. I exhibited prints and paintings extensively there and in 1980 moved to California. I resumed teaching high school art and at night would do intaglios and lithographs at CSULB. I applied for and received a Fulbright Scholarship to Japan during that time and there viewed their education system lived with a family, and participated in art and theater events. I joined the Los Angeles Printmaking Society and eventually became its President. Also, during all this time, I exhibited widely and received many honors and awards for my prints. Currently my Monotype "Baggage" is in the 33rd Annual Drawing and Printmaking exhibition at the Gormley Gallery in Baltimore, MD and my intaglio, "Extinction Scream," is in the LAPS Wild Animal exhibition. As President of the LAPS Foundation, I am preparing for the jurying and awarding of grants to promising matriculated Printmaking students April 16.
