Paper Boats is a unique print portfolio that asked 20 artists to explore the symbolic theme of water to be presented as 3D folded paper boats. Water historically has presented an exciting subject for printmaking artists to interpret, as a symbol of resourcefulness, creativity and resilience.

Florence Alfano McEwen
The fragility of the folded paper boats creates another interpretation of the subject, as a symbol of resourcefulness, creativity and resilience.
Paper Boats is a unique collaborative project presented here as both a portfolio of flat verso/recto prints and a portfolio of the resulting folded “boats”. The 20 artists selected for the portfolio come from all over the United States and include one artist living on the island of Guam and an artist living in China.

Paper Boats was sponsored by Los Angeles Printmaking as part of the 2020 SGCI conference that has now been re-scheduled for the 2023 SGCI in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with a stop visiting the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, Venice, Italy in May, 2022.

All LA Printmaking members, both students and artist members, may join Paper Boats going to Venice in 2022
